Our Mission in Action
Every day at our branches and through our programs, someone's life is positively impacted by their association with the Y.
Partly that's because we're in a helping field, providing services and support for healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility across a wide spectrum.
Partly it's due to the staff that's in place - hardworking, conscientious, caring.
And it's all derived from our mission: to provide a welcoming, all-inclusive environment where no-one is ever turned away for inability to pay; where individuals are pushed to be good sports as much as good athletes; where adults can find a nurturing environment as they maintain and build their physical health; where families can come together during events structured just for them.
This section contains stories that highlight our mission in action. Some are introductions to programs that you might not have known about, like Y Haven, a transitional housing program for homeless men, and our Military Outreach initiative, which provides memberships and support to active servicemen and their families.
Others are personal portraits such as Sidney Battles and her triumph over diabetes, members of the Y's bike marathon program, and 5th and 6th graders from Parma who are participating in an innovative program called Club Health which prepares them for a marathon.
The Greater Cleveland Y has evolved into much more than a "swim and a gym," and is so large and complex that at times even we struggle to put it all together in a succinct format.
This section of our web site is a tool to help you "put it all together" as you consider what the Greater Cleveland Y is to northeast Ohio.
