CHILD CARE INSTRUCTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Child Care Instructor is responsible for the smooth and the effective delivery of the child care programs. May be required to travel to and from branch locations for assigned duties, trainings, or meetings, or work programs in other areas as needed.
Know How:
- Ability to read and write and understand written directions
- Must be 18 years of age or older
High School diploma or GED
- 15 hours in-service training per year, for a total of 45 hours over the course of 3 years {Prorated - may be less if employed less than 3 years}
- Must meet state licensing requirements
- Previous work experience in a child care center is preferred
Principal Activities:
- Maintain safety of children by appropriately supervising program participants at all times.
- Be responsible for implementing age-appropriate techniques relative to the discipline, guidance, and management of children.
- Document and respond to all participant incidents and notify proper authorities.
- Maintain essential records (i.e. attendance sheets, CACFP forms, administration of medication).
- Complete reports within required timeframe (i.e. incident reports, child behavioral reports).
- Follow daily schedule and assigned curriculum.
- Communicate with supervisor when essential supplies (including First Aid and BBP protective equipment) require replenishment.
- Represent YMCA by developing positive working relationships with program participants, parents, and local community groups and/or organizations
Common Duties & Responsibilities:
- Be visibly involved with members, volunteers, and staff in a positive, friendly manner that communicates and demonstrates the YMCA’s core values of caring, honest, respect and responsibility.
- Follow all established policies and procedures, including but not limited to, safety practices and personnel policies.
- Participate in and support association events and fund raising activities.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
- Secure required trainings and/or certifications necessary for the position.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk, reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or bend. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific Requirements:
Must be able to read, write, hear and speak the English language in a legible and understandable manner.
Work Environment:
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. May be required to work outside and on occasion may encounter inclement weather.
Adherence to these performances standards is expected by the YMCA of Greater Cleveland and measurement of the adherence is part of the annual review and development plan process.
SITE ADMINISTRATOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The Site Administrator is responsible for administering child care programs at designated YMCA program sites. This includes supervising child care staff, developing appropriate curriculum, and maintaining site records, programs, etc. to ensure state licensure compliance. May be required to travel to and from branch locations for assigned duties, trainings, or meetings, or work programs in other areas as needed.
Know How:
- Ability to read and write and understand written directions
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School diploma or GED
- 60 semester credit hours (90 quarter hours) from an accredited college, university or technical college, including a minimum of 12 semester credit hours (18 quarter hours) from an accredited college or university in Child Development
- 15 hours in-service training per year, for a total of 45 hours over the course of 3 years {Prorated - may be less if employed less than 3 years}
- Must meet state licensing requirements
- Previous work experience in a child care center and experience in staff supervision is preferred
Principal Activities
Program Implementation:
a. Ensure all licensing requirements are followed and site is maintained in accordance with ODJFS day care licensing standards.
b. Plan, develop, and implement appropriate lesson plans and activities by incorporating them into the daily schedule.
c. Complete and submit daily, weekly, and monthly reports in a timely manner as assigned by supervisor.
d. Maintain a file system that will include all policies, fee schedules, school year schedules, ODJFS child day care rules, child enrollment information, and staff files.
e. Provide coverage of program when assigned instructor is absent, and arrange for substitute instructors in coordination with supervisor.
f. Notify supervisor of any parent concerns or unsafe conditions at center, as well as foster ongoing communication with supervisor regarding center operations.
g. Communicate with supervisor when essential supplies (including First Aid and BBP protective equipment) require replenishment.
h. Be responsible for administering First Aid to children/staff if required.
i. Coordinate and staff Fun Days as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Functions
a. Supervise staff at assigned sites in their assigned duties.
b. Ensure that staff understand and complete their duties, responsibilities, and accountabilities per standards for acceptable performance.
c. Conduct regular staff meetings.
Staff Recruitment/Development:
a. Participate in hiring interviews and make hiring recommendations.
Program Development:
a. Work with supervisor on promotional activities and flyers.
Public Relations/Community Affairs:
a. Represent YMCA by developing positive working relationships with program participants, parents, and local community groups and/or organizations.
Fund Development Activities:
a. Participate in or coordinate fundraising activities as per department, branch, or association plans.
