City of Lorain Pool Quick Facts
The French Creek Family YMCA will continue a partnership with the City of Lorain in opening Central Pool and Oakwood Pool in the summer from June 24th through August 16th, 2013. Central Pool will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12-5pm; while Oakwood Pool will be open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 12-5pm during the summer months. Central and Oakwood pools will alternate Saturday openings. Central will be open June 29, Oakwood July 6 and alternate thereafter through the end of the season.
The French Creek Family YMCA has applied for the 2013 Nord Family Foundation grant to help operate the pool facilities again for the Summer of 2013.
Daily gate admission to the pool is $3 for those 15 and under, and $5 for those 16 and over. Children under age 3 are free of charge. Appropriate bathing suit attire is required for entry and young children must be in swim diapers to use the pool.
No basketball shorts and t-shirts will be permitted, however, Rashguard shirts and/or polyester shirts (Under Armor type) are permitted.
The YMCA strictly enforces a lifeguard to patron ratio of 1 to 25. Should the patron count begin to exceed the lifeguard ratio, the pool managers will prohibit entry until patron counts lessen or another lifeguard can arrive to lessen the ratio. For this reason, if you would like to bring a group of 10 or more, the YMCA requests a 3 day call-ahead to ensure enough staff are present to accodomodate your group.
Summer swim passes are available for $50.00 for children 15 and under, $70.00 for children 16 and older, and $125.00 for a family. The passes are valid for the entire summer season.
Swim lessons will be available at both locations and will accomodate children age 3 through 12 years of age. The ratio for these swim lessons will be one instructor to 4-6 children dependant on the swim abilities of the participants. Cost of the swim lessons will be $30 per session.
The scholarship application is available for pool passes and swim lessons through the French Creek Family YMCA. Finanical documentation will be required to have scholarship approval.
Please note if the high temperature for the day is below 62 degrees, the pool will not open. If swim lessons are held on one of these days, participants will be contacted for a make up schedule. If inclement weather occurs in the morning hours, the pools will open at 2:00pm as long as weather is clearing. Pool managers have the ability to close a pool for inclement weather and/or lack of attendance.
In 2010, the Greater Cleveland YMCA Association stepped in to manage the pool after Lorain National Bank donated funds to open it. The City of Lorain has three municipal pools but did not have the funding to open them and relied on Lorain National Bank and the YMCA to open Central Pool. In 2011, The Nord Family Foundation contributed a grant to aid the YMCA in operating the Central Pool and Oakwood Pools facility.
Registration for passes and swim lessons may occur at the French Creek YMCA, Oakwood Pool, and Central Pool.
